For the second year in a row, Kindergarten - 4th grade students celebrated International Dot Day! What is International Dot Day, you ask? It's a day inspired by the story The Dot by Peter Reynolds, and is celebrated around September 15th-ish. You can learn more about it here. www.thedotclub.org/dotday/
Because students only have Art once a week, it takes us a little past September 15th so the "ish" is nice to make things flexible. :-) After hearing the story via this cute YouTube video...

...each grade works on a dot inspired project. I love this story. It really shares what I always tell my students, anyone is an artist, and anything can be art. Each grade completed their own dot inspired project. Kindergarten, drew dots on paper plates and created paper sculptures, First grade painted Kadinksy inspired dots, Second grade created "tie-dye" dots, Third grade created radial symmetry dots, and Fourth grade enjoyed drawing dot inspired pictures using scratch away etching paper. Check it out! You can find more under the "student work" link. It has been super fun putting these all on display outside the art room. Happy International Dot Day!
