YouFirst grade pretty much wrapped up their first project today! They did a great job. I love how these turned out. To go with the space inspired theme from our summer reading logs, and back to school decorations, they also had space themed project. Alien UFOs!
My inspiration for this project came from this YouTube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkdZ2ZNG-Ts
from the Art for Kids Hub channel. I love finding ideas and turning them into our own!
To start, the students and I drew together. They followed along very well. Some were nervous to draw in sharpie instead of pencil (fear of not being able to erase mistakes), but everyone really did awesome! Once we drew the entire picture together, I let them have their freedom to color. To color they used oil pastel. I encouraged them to make their colors very thick and rich...make the white on the paper disappear!
Once they finished coloring their drawing, they cut it out and glued it to sky blue construction paper. They then drew their own details in the background to complete the project. We talked about how our aliens are flying up in the sky so no ground details. Things like clouds, sun, birds, treetops, rainbows, rooftops, tall buildings, is what we were going for.
The finished projects are turning out awesome and will look great in our halls. What do you think?
